Skopje, 4 December 2024 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Wednesday that the meetings with the new leadership of the European Council in Brussels were used to introduce the European politicians with the Government’s “arguments for the overcoming of the dispute with Bulgaria”. He said the conversations would continue at the upcoming summit of the European Union with the Western Balkan countries.
“We discussed all essential topics. We are going through the arguments again, debating, providing new arguments. You should know that this is a new composition, a completely new composition, yesterday was practically their second day at work, and a lot of the information that they are receiving now is practically new to them. Based on these discussions, I expect that in the period to come certain potential solutions could be developed and shaped,” Mickoski said.
The PM said the Government provided “firm arguments” at the meetings.
“I don’t believe in instant solutions. We are doing everything we can with all people who can play a role in overcoming this imposed dispute that doesn’t allow us to progress to full-fledged EU membership due to the exhibitionist foreign policy of the previous Government,” Mickoski said.
He said they wouldn’t take steps that would “embarrass” the Macedonian citizens or “inflict scars on the Macedonian identity”.
On Tuesday in Brussels, Mickoski attended an informal working dinner hosted by the new President of the European Council, António Costa. He also met with the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, and the head of the European People’s Party (EPP), Manfred Weber.
