Mickoski doesn’t expect disruptions to caretaker government processes

Skopje, 27 January 2024 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski reiterated on Saturday the party’s position that they won’t vote for the caretaker government. He told the media he doesn’t expect disruptions in the caretaker government processes because, he said, the law and the Constitution are clear.

“Everything is possible with these people, but I don’t expect anything that could disrupt the process,” said Mickoski in answer to a journalist’s question.

Asked if he expects a change of policy with the new caretaker Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi, Mickoski said that over the past six and a half years Xhaferi “as Speaker of Parliament, made many anti-constitutional and illegal moves”.

“I expect a continuation of the bad policies… We need to be optimistic, however, I expect that during these 100 days it will be worse,” said the leader of the largest opposition party.

Regarding SDSM’s initiative to establish a ‘European front’ for the elections, Mickoski assessed this as a “criminal coalition which in an attempt to distract rebrands itself as a European coalition”.

“There is nothing European there, except maybe for the fact they jointly agree how to rob the people and the country. That’s the interest that brings those political structures together. I hope, and to be more precise, I am certain that after these elections that option will suffer a devastating defeat. They will be able to pass a whole four-year term in the opposition, they will have a chance to reform with new people, new policies and new ideas, and after four years they will show up at the general elections and offer something more specific and more competitive,” said Mickoski.

Commenting on the decision of the Appellate Court to cancel the house arrest measure for Bekim Neziri, suspect in the “M-NAV” case, Mickoski said “these are the reforms offered by the European front”.

“They violently break into strategic buildings, they endanger the air traffic, they endanger the security of the Macedonian sky and allied aircraft. And then, those same people will be seen walking freely in the streets in a week or two, because they have their own prosecutors and judges. Once and for all, we must deal with the mafia that owns Macedonia in order to be able to transform it,” said Mickoski.
