Mickoski: Current Parliament has no mandate to amend Constitution, VMRO-DPMNE proposes three-part plan

Skopje, 24 March 2023 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said Friday that his position on the constitutional amendments is clear and unchanging. According to Mickoski, the current parliamentary makeup lacks the mandate to amend the Constitution, regardless of the pressure.

“The pressure will continue and won’t end. They won’t give up, because this government asks for people to be pressured. I have no problem resisting. They are fierce, but what is different from the Prespa Agreement is that VMRO-DPMNE is consolidated, united, and there are no weak links within it. Now there are no other centers of influence, VMRO-DPMNE as a whole is a center of influence. We are united not because we are stubborn, but because we want the people to get something too. My message is clear and I, personally, won’t budge an inch and will resist all pressure regardless of where it’s coming from,” said Mickoski during his visit to the Municipality of Ilinden on Friday.

Mickoski noted that VMRO-DPMNE has a three-part plan that consists of national elements, political elements, as well as an economic plan to help the citizens.

“We are ready to present and discuss this plan with EU diplomats immediately after the elections, this is the only plan with which we could overcome the current situation, and the dead end that we have been brought to by DUI’s government, supported by SDSM,” said Mickoski.

According to Mickoski, the current Parliament lacks the mandate to amend the Constitution, and should dissolve itself as soon as possible, so that early parliamentary elections can be held and every political party and coalition can come out with a clear plan and a vision about how to overcome the issue.

Asked about Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski’s remark that the current VMRO-DPMNE leader and his predecessor, Nikola Gruevski, had differing views on the constitutional amendments, Mickoski said that his position is well-known and Kovachevski should be the one to say more about Gruevski’s position.

“My position is clear and unchanging. And regarding the position of former VMRO-DPMNE leader, Nikola Gruevski, maybe Kovachevski should give you more information. If he knows the details then he should share them with the public. It is good to ask him next time what the position is, since the public doesn’t know it and neither do I,” said Mickoski. ad/nn/
