Mickoski: Citizens should remain calm, electricity price will not increase

Skopje, 26 June 2024 (MIA) - Citizens should remain calm, the price of electricity will not increase and I expect the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to confirm this, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said on Wednesday.

Mickoski told reporters that the terms have been met, i.e. yesterday MPs adopted amendments to the Law on Energy, and the universal supplier EVN Home optimized the quantities so that there is no enormous increase in the price of electricity.

"When I submitted the amendments to the Law on Energy I had two messages. The first one that MPs should vote on the amendments as soon as possible, which is what they did, and the second to the universal supplier - EVN Home to optimize the quantities so as to avoid an enormous increase in electricity prices for households and its users. And I was informed that the two conditions have been met. The law was adopted yesterday, and I was told that EVN fully optimized the quantities. Now, it is up to ERC to decide, as an independent body," Mickoski said.

He added that based on his knowledge in this area, he does not expect an increase in the first and second categories.

"Based on my knowledge in this area I do not expect an increase in the first and second categories, even if there is an increase it would be minimal, i.e. less than 1 percent or the total increase would be twice lower than the inflation, i.e. moving from 0 to 1 percent. Citizens should remain calm, the price of electricity will not increase with the fulfilment of these two conditions, and I expect ERC to confirm this," Mickoski noted.ssh/nn/
