Skopje, 19 June 2024 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM-designate Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday that after the vote for the new government, he will commit himself, among other things, to the issue of amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government because several mayors will become ministers in his government. Mickoski said it was better to resolve that in an elegant way than spend millions of people's money.
"As regards the amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government, I am waiting on the election of the new government to take place first, and then we can also hear the views of the experts. You heard that there are experts who say that this law was against the Constitution. I say that I would like to hear their opinions, to include those opinions in this law, so that there is no doubt in the public that this law could be unconstitutional. As soon as the conditions are created, it will enter in parliamentary procedure," said Mickoski.
The PM-designate said he would not like to see the citizens' money being spent on additional elections.
"And maybe it is in our interest to hold elections and reaffirm and prove that VMRO-DPMNE is by far the biggest political force in Macedonia. But why spend millions of people's money when we can resolve it in an elegant way," Mickoski said in Tetovo on Wednesday.
