Mickoski: Achieving EU membership through synergy in reform efforts and preservation of citizens' dignity

Skopje, 24 October 2024 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski during Thursday’s joint press conference with the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that there is a need for synergy in the efforts aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens and implementing reforms in line with the European standards, while also preserving the pride and dignity of the citizens.

When asked by a reporter if there is support within the EU for the plan concerning constitutional amendments with delayed effect, and whether there would be any assurance against new demands from Bulgaria if they are enacted, Mickoski noted that achieving the final goal of integrating into the European family can only happen with that synergy.

“I think that the President was very clear and precise at the press conference. We need to work; we need to work hard to reach our goal, which is for the region and for us to be part of the European family and the EU. As a government, we will continue to promoting European values. We will do everything necessary to bring the EU closer to the citizens, which is both our obligation and our aspiration, as over 75 percent of the citizens envision their future as part of the European family. In my capacity as Prime Minister, I will continue to act solely in the best interests of the citizens. Their primary concern is to improve their living conditions, uphold the rule of law, implement reforms, and incorporate European values into our daily lives. At the same time, it is vital to preserve their pride and dignity, ensuring they are neither humiliated nor defeated. I believe that if we establish a positive synergy around these issues I mentioned in response to your question, we can achieve our ultimate goal, which is to join the European family as soon as possible,” Mickoski stated.
