Michalis Rokas nominated as new EU Ambassador in Skopje

Brussels, 17 April 2024 (MIA) – The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has officially nominated Greek diplomat Michalis Rokas as the EU Ambassador to North Macedonia. 

He has been serving as EU Ambassador to Malaysia since December 2020. Rokas has previously served as Head of Division for support to Delegations in the EEAS.

“The appointment process of the nominees will be formalized following the receipt of the official approval (agrément), where applicable, from the respective host countries,” EEAS, the diplomatic service of the European Union, said in a press release. 

44 Heads of Delegation, Heads of Office, Chargés d’affaires a.i. of the European Union have been nominated including Luigi Soreca (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Aivo Orav (Kosovo), Thomas Hans Ossowski (Turkye), Johann Sattler (Montenegro) and Miroslav Lajcak (Swtzerland). 

It was also announced that Simon Mordue, who is currently serving as Chief Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of the European Council, has been selected as Deputy Secretary-General for Economic and Global Issues.
