MFA says it fully supports 'autonomous and expert' history commission
Skopje, 16 August 2022 (MIA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Tuesday that it fully supports the work of the joint commission on historical and educational issues established with Bulgaria and welcomes the released recommendations that are a part of the protocol signed by the two countries in 2019.
Commission members and its president pointed out several principles that are important from a political aspect, the Ministry said.
"Firstly, the work the Commission does and its the content is fully autonomous, expert and professional, protected from any political influence. This precondition is contained within the principles of the protocol signed by both Ministries of Foreign Affairs and represents one of the key principles securing authentic expertise in the Commission's work. Secondly, the presented results maintain the principle of reciprocity for both countries, which represent one of the key elements for building mutual trust and respect, also noted in the protocol. Thirdly, the results show that historians can find appropriate solutions through a courageous and honest approach, based on historical truths that rest on facts, which offer the opportunity for mutual observation of certain historical events, overcoming differences, and creating a basis to build a stable mutual future of both countries," said the press release.
The Commission for Historical and Educational Issues with Bulgaria will have the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially when it comes to supporting autonomy in their work, noted the Ministry.
"We'd like to encourage the Commission to keep up its work, free of the political pressures created in the public, relying on their expertise, conscientiousness and expertise," stated the press release. dk/ba/
