Skopje, 13 August 2024 (MIA) — DUI's separate event on the 23rd anniversary of the Ohrid Framework Agreement is a party celebration, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti said in a comment on "the parallel celebration" held ahead of the formal session of the Government scheduled to mark the occasion.
According to First Deputy PM Mexhiti, the agreement was about deciding how the state should run "and not an agreement on how one political party would remain in power forever."
Asked for a comment after taking part in a panel dedicated to the Framework Agreement, Mexhiti said it was typical of DUI "to devalue the Framework Agreement by holding concerts and organizing events outside the institutions" when they were in power.
"And even now, when we are celebrating the Framework Agreement anniversary institutionally, they are doing the same thing again, throwing a party celebration," Mexhiti said.
"This is nothing new. As always, DUI is operating outside the normal flows, the institutional flows," he added.
Asked about the rumors of Ali Ahmeti's party potentially destabilizing the country, Mexhiti said DUI did not have any reason to protest.
"True, there is talk that when they sit down, they want to demolish. They need fog, because they are the opposition for the first time in 20 years and they can't face reality," Mexhiti said.
"But this does not mean they have a cause for demonstrations and protests," he said. "Because the Albanians' cause cannot be 'Soravia' and similarly corrupt deals."
Mexhiti's Democratic Movement party and its Worth It coalition are part of the coalition government. mr/
