Mexhiti - Rokas meeting: European integration remains our key strategic priority

Skopje, 17 September 2024 (MIA) - At a meeting with Michalis Rokas, the new EU Ambassador in Skopje, Izet Mexhiti, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, underscored that the integration of our country into the European family remains a key strategic priority.

“It was a great pleasure for me to meet today with the new Head of the European Union Delegation to North Macedonia, Michalis Rokas, to whom I extended a warm welcome and wished a successful mandate in our country. This meeting provided an excellent opportunity to further deepen the relations between North Macedonia and the European Union. I emphasized that the integration of our country into the European family remains our strategic and most important priority,” Mexhiti said, according to his office.

Mexhiti added that these meetings are crucial for strengthening our cooperation and encouraging reforms that help us meet the standards and expectations of the EU.

During our conversation, we extensively discussed issues affecting the country's development, with a particular focus on the political and economic situation. Another key point of our discussion was the emphasis on environmental policies, with a special focus on initiatives for environmental protection and addressing ecological challenges, as well as the important role of the EU in improving these processes. We also talked about the possibilities for EU financial and technical support for our development projects and essential reforms, with a focus on specific projects related to the Ministry of Environment. Enhancing reforms and implementing environmental legislation according to European standards were highlighted as top priorities, stated First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, Izet Mexhiti.
