Message from Brussels is that North Macedonia’s place is in the EU, says Deputy PM

Brussels, 8 November 2024 (MIA) - The message from Brussels is very positive, that North Macedonia’s place, as well as the place of the entire Western Balkans, is in the European Union, but we need to complete the tasks we have as a country and complete this stage and turn a new page in the process of joining the European Union, the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance, Arben Fetai, told MIA in Brussels.

Fetai is attending a conference hosted by the “Friends of Europe” think-tank in Brussels, focused on the situation in Europe, as part of which he attended a gala dinner alongside the representatives of all EU member states, the private sector, NATO and the US.

“We received clear messages that there is a momentum which wasn’t there in the past, to continue our country’s European path and integrate the Western Balkans into the EU. Unfortunately, these conditions arose only after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and now everyone in Brussels and in all European capitals recognizes the importance of this momentum, the importance of integrating the Western Balkans into the EU,” Fetai stressed.

The Deputy PM said similar messages were voiced at the State of Europe conference, as part of which a panel was held focused on EU enlargement.

“The messages were crystal clear – there is an exceptional momentum that we, as the Western Balkans, must use and accomplish the remaining tasks. It’s well known what is expected of us. We need to conclude the constitutional amendments, which will finally open negotiations with the EU,” Fetai added.
