Meeting of Jean Monnet working group, VMRO-DPMNE not taking part
Skopje, 8 November 2022 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi scheduled Tuesday a meeting of the working group on the Jean Monnet Dialogue. The group, comprised of representatives and coordinators of MP groups, mainly discusses changes or drafting of a new Rules of Procedures of the Parliament.
VMRO-DPMNE whip Nikola Micevski has said he would not attend the meeting because they were not consulted over its timing.
“Continuation of the Jean Monnet process comes after the poor European Commission Report in the section about the Parliament. The meeting is taking place without the opposition being consulted and it will only be attended by representatives of the ruling parties. The process of passing a new Rules of Procedures without VMRO-DPMNE is not a credible process,” Micevski told MIA.
Speaker Talat Xhaferi told a recent press briefing that the Parliament needs a new Rules of Procedures because the current one would represent a problem for all.
According to him, the new Rules of Procedures should be adopted through a regular procedure, aiming to solve many shortcomings and problems arising from the current one.
This year’s EC report noted series of remarks over the Parliament’s work, including that, “Parliament should implement without further delay the proposals for internal reform agreed during the third round of the Jean Monnet Dialogue in early 2020.”
