Media Literacy Days 2023 begin with 'Media Literacy in Digital Spaces' conference

Skopje, 24 October 2023 (MIA) — Under the motto "The Finger in Haste Makes Fake News Spread," the national Media Literacy Network is organizing a series of Media Literacy Days events from Oct. 23 through 31.

This year’s Media Literacy Days theme, and the topic of the opening conference on Tuesday, is „Media Literacy in Digital Spaces.“ It will be hosted by the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services, organized together with Metamorphosis Foundation, Macedonian Institute for Media Institute, and the International Research and Exchanges Board as part of the USAID media literacy project "Youthink."

The series of in-person and online events, including panel discussions, debates, workshops, a multimedia exhibition and a documentary screening, are also marking UNESCO's Global Media and Information Literacy Week.

The Media Information Agency, which is a member of the Media Literacy Network, will host a panel on the role of the academic community in promoting media literacy in Bitola on Oct. 27.

Other events include a public session of the Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia; Radio MOF open media day; a workshop by the Presidential Center for Political Education on community resilience to disinformation; and a panel on media literacy progress and reporters' safety organized by the Association of Journalists of Macedonia.

This is the fifth time that Media Literacy Days have been organized in North Macedonia. The series of events will close with an annual meeting of Media Literacy Network members on Oct. 31. mr/
