Delchevo, 30 July 2023 (MIA) - This is the last train that North Macedonia must board because there is no other alternative for staying on the European tracks, Slovak Ambassador Henrik Markus told MIA during his visit to Delchevo on Sunday.

Ambassador Markus said this was the message that the three foreign ministers of the so-called Slavkov format communicated a couple of weeks ago.

"This trilateral group has excellent cooperation, maybe even better than the Visegrad Group, and the ministers conveyed very clear messages. What happened with the so-called French proposal was maybe not the best course of action but that's life. Life is not fair and Macedonia has no other alternative than doing what it should. This was the message," said Markus.

According to him, the country could bring itself into a situation to stop on the path and Albania to continue.

Referring to the opposition's stance, the Slovak Ambassador said it does not offer any alternative or solution.

"You are now in a very difficult situation - Macedonia to stop and Albania to move forward, instead of creating a tandem and making the only solution that is good for the countries' sooner accession. Therefore, I think that the messages coming from the ministers of the Slavkov format were clear. At that meeting, our minister quoted former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who once said 'the time is now and the choice is very clear'," noted Markus.
