Marichikj-Lawson: Focus on reforms and strengthening of bilateral relations
Skopje, 28 September 2022 (MIA) – The country can count on political economic and development support by the United Kingdom in the enhancement of reforms, said new British Ambassador Matthew Lawson at a meeting with Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj on Wednesday.
Deputy PM Marichikj briefed Ambassador Lawson on the screening process, highlighting North Macedonia’s efforts for comprehensive reforms in all walks of life, which is important in speeding up the Euro-integration process and the pace of opening and closing Acquis clusters and chapters, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release.
“UK support in development cooperation has increased since 2018 and we are successfully collaborating on three twinning projects in the field of police reforms and criminal legislation, control of state aid and promotion of equality,” said Marichikj.
Lawson welcomed the start of the EU negotiations and the Government’s active approach in the first stage of the accession process, saying North Macedonia can count on UK’s support in the enhancement of reforms.
Interlocutors also discussed current developments and challenges regarding the war in Ukraine, sustainable energy and food supply, with both voicing mutual commitment for strengthening of bilateral economic and political relations, reads the press release.
