Skopje, 19 February 2023 (MIA) — We support ideas and initiatives leading to stability and the development of democracy, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj wrote in a Facebook post after he and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met with the founder and chairman of the Open Society Foundations George Soros and deputy chairman Alexander Soros.

“At the meeting, we agreed that promoting democratic values and regional cooperation is an impetus for economic development, greater mobility and a better living standard,” Marichikj wrote.

He added that the Open Society Foundations’ continuous support for projects and the transfer of good practices during reforms was accellerating EU integration. 

“We are thankful for their help so far and, as a government, we are open to promoting cooperation with our friends from the Open Society, especially in areas that are currently crucial for our negotiations with the EU, such as the rule of law and the work of democratic institutions,” the Europe Minister wrote. mr/
