Marichikj: European standard of living for citizens by the end of 2030
Skopje, 17 November 2022 (MIA) – Our goal is clear, the reforms must continue and every institution should be up to the task, especially Parliament, because EU integration is a team process, said Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European affairs Bojan Marichikj in his opening address at the “Green Agenda – Renewable Resources, Macedonian Food, European Market” debate on Thursday.
Marichikj said that the obligation that the government has undertaken is difficult, but that the development, prosperity, European economy and standard of living are the priority.
“We know that this obligation is difficult, but we also know our goal – development, prosperity, a European economy, a European market and a European standard of living for the citizens by the end of 2030, an ambitious but achievable goal which requires that all social actors are committed and engaged. This is not only our obligation to the EU and the negotiations, but also our duty and obligation to the citizens as well,” stressed Marichikj.
According to the Deputy PM, all chapters of the negotiations are important, but the two clusters, on green agenda and on agriculture are particularly important, especially during the current crisis.
He reiterated that the EC Report for 2022 noted a good level of readiness which is an additional obligation, not only to discuss the progress but also all of the weaknesses.
“The sooner we overcome our weaknesses, the sooner we will become an EU member, and the government has a strong desire to see this happen and is fully committed,” said Marichikj, adding that the screening process is an additional incentive.
Apart from the Deputy PM, the debate will also be addressed by Minister of Environment and Physical Planning and coordinator of Cluster 4, Naser Nuredini, Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski, Valandovo Mayor Pero Kostadinov and the head of the Energy Agency Dario Nikolovski. ad/ba/
