Skopje, 4 May 2024 (MIA) - SDSM will be a strong party in the Parliament, and the citizens will decide who will be in power and who will be the opposition, Deputy PM for European Affairs and SDSM's international secretary Bojan Marichikj said on Saturday.  

In a statement to the media after Saturday's event to mark the 121st death anniversary of revolutionary Goce Delchev, Marichikj said that he expects SDSM to achieve better results on May 8 compared to the results in the first round of the presidential elections.  

"SDSM is a strong party, a party that has procedures in place, democratic capacity and the potential to open all discussions and analyze the reasons for the election results, but also the consequences for the country and the party. I am sure that SDSM will have a better result than in the first round and that as a party we will be a bulwark defending freedom, democracy, social justice, higher wages and pensions and the path of European integration, all of which VMRO-DPMNE, I know, plans to threaten," said Marichikj. 

Asked how many MP seats SDSM expects in the Parliament, Marichikj said that citizens will decide on that.   

On SDSM he said it was one of the few parties, perhaps the only one, which has such democratic mechanisms.

"We are one of the few parties, if not the only one, which has such democratic mechanisms for discussion and for an accountable congress and for direct election of president, which will all contribute to strengthening the party, bringing its members closer, so let's come out even stronger from this situation. The important thing for me, and I believe for everyone, as the slogan says, is that there is no giving up on the future, that SDSM does not give up on its ideology, its policies and values," said Marichikj.
