Marichikj – Holstein: North Macedonia one step closer to EU
Skopje, 10 January 2023 (MIA) — Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj held a farewell meeting with Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Anke Holstein, according to an official press release.
Minister Marichikj and Ambassador Holstein discussed the cooperation between the two countries in the process of the European integration of North Macedonia, the ongoing screening process, activities within the Berlin Process as well as the government’s priorities in the near future.
Marichikj and Holstein agreed North Macedonia was on the right track and one step closer to fulfilling the strategic goal of joining the EU.
At the meeting, they stressed that the start of negotiations with the EU was a landmark date in the country’s European integration process.
“Through thorough reforms, togetherness and standing united on this issue, success on the road to the EU will be guaranteed," the release from the Secretariat for European Affairs says.
Outgoing ambassador Holstein said Germany would remain North Macedonia’s strong supporter and a proven partner, continuously contributing to the country’s progress toward the EU and its faster achievement of European standards in key areas, especially those covered by Cluster 1 on Fundamentals. mr/
