Manchevski's 'Kaymak' wins Special Jury Prize at Portuguese film festival Fantasporto

Skopje, 6 March 2023 (MIA) – Milcho Manchevski’s film 'Kaymak' won the Special Jury Prize as part of the prestigious Director’s Week program at the 43rd edition of the Fantasporto festival held in the Portuguese city of Porto. As one of the awarded films, Kaymak received an additional screening after the closing of the festival.

 

“This is the latest prize for Manchevski, the most awarded Macedonian film director, who has won more than 60 international awards and recognitions in his career thus far, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and an Oscar nomination,” said the team behind the film in a press release.

 

'Kaymak' is Manchevski’s seventh film, a Macedonian-Danish-Dutch-Croatian co-production in cooperation with MRTV, created with the support of Euroimage. The main roles are played by Sara Klimoska, Aleksandar Mikikj, Kamka Tocinovski, Simona Spirovska, Ana Stojanovska, Filip Trajkovikj and Petar Mirchevski. The film is produced by Jane Kjortoshev, Ulrik Boel Bentzen is the director of photography, David Munns is the production designer, Emil Nuninga is the editor, the film’s music is composed by Danish String Quartet and Igor Vasilev-Novogradska.

 

The film, a dark comedy and a criticism of the petty bourgeois morale and the illiberal tendencies in society, received its world premiere in Tokyo and was the most watched film in Macedonia in 2022. ad/nn/
