Macron to telephone Biden to discuss failed submarine deal

Macron to telephone Biden to discuss failed submarine deal
French President Emmanuel Macron plans to talk with US President Joe Biden over the failure of a multi-billion-euro submarine deal, officials said on Sunday. A telephone conversation is planned in the coming days, according to a statement issued by the Elysee Palace. However, no date or time have been set yet. France has responded with outrage to the AUKUS alliance between Britain, the US and Australia, which was announced several days ago and would see Canberra acquire nuclear-powered submarines in the next 18 months. It also means a 56-billion-euro (66-billion-dollar) deal for Australia to buy French submarines will be scrapped. France recalled its ambassadors to the US and Australia over the failed deal on Friday, a decision made on Macron's request.
