Paris, 3 July 2023 (dpa/MIA) — President Emmanuel Macron plans to meet on Tuesday with more than 200 mayors whose communities have been particularly affected by the protests sweeping France, reports said.

Macron is also to meet with the presidents of the Senate and National Assembly on Monday, broadcaster BFMTV and the Le Parisien newspaper reported on Sunday night, following Macron's emergency meeting with Cabinet ministers.

France has been rocked by days of riots, including looting and arson attacks.

The trigger was the death of a 17-year-old by a police bullet during a traffic stop in a Paris suburb. The killing inflamed simmering anger over concerns about police violence and systemic racism.

Macron met on Sunday evening with Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti.
