Macedonians spend the most for online shopping in UK

Skopje, 3 May 2023 (MIA) - Last year, Macedonians spent EUR 156.2 million on products and services with payment cards from foreign e-traders, which is an increase of 46.31 percent compared to 2021.

Analysis made by Macedonian e-Commerce Association (AETM), based on published data from the National Bank, shows that the number of e-transactions made by Macedonians online shopping abroad has increased by 21.1 percent.

In 2022, Macedonians spent the most in UK (EUR 21.8 million), and made the largest number of transactions in Luxembourg (EUR 865.9 thousand).

The large amounts of spending in UK, Hungary and the Netherlands are expected taking into account that Amazon UK, ASOS (UK), WizzAir (Hungary), and Booking.com (Netherlands) originate from these countries. Considering that the European branches of Amazon and AliExpress are registered in Luxembourg, through which transactions for the majority of European countries are carried out, excluding the UK, Luxembourg has the largest number of transactions made with the lowest average value, according to AETM.

The number of online transactions made by individuals account for 89 percent of the total number and have an average value per completed transaction of EUR 32.4, compared to EUR 124.1 made by legal entities. ssh/ik/
