Skopje, 16 August 2024 (MIA) - First Deputy Prime Minister Izet Mexhiti told media Friday that all Albanian MPs would be prepared to adopt the constitutional amendments as early as tomorrow if a session of Parliament were to be held, but, he stressed, the Macedonian MPs hold the key to this issue.
“Over the last four years, Mr. Ahmeti spoke about the issue but didn’t move a single inch. Now VLEN has the chance and VLEN is doing what it can. We don’t want to lie to the public. All Albanian MPs, 30 MPs, are ready to vote for the constitutional amendments as early as tomorrow if we are summoned to a session of Parliament. But the Macedonian MPs hold the key. We are working with them alongside the international factor, while being conscious of the sensitivity of the issue since it is a matter of identity, language, and we understand them as compatriots because we know well the value of these things. But this is the only path and option to move towards the European Union,” Mexhiti said.
