Macedonian film 'Chained' selected for European Short Pitch

Skopje, 26 February 2024 (MIA) — Macedonian actress Sara Klimoska's directorial debut, the short film "Chained," has been selected to participate in the European Short Pitch program, which ends with a networking event held on Feb. 26-29 in Rennes, France.

"Chained" was one of the only 12 films that made it to the European Short Pitch final selection, producers said in a press release.

According to the European Short Pitch website, Klimoska's short tells the story of 30-year-old Eva who cares for her psychologically disordered mother who rejects medical help.

"This consumes her entire time and energy and shatters all her dreams. Seeking escape from the only bond defining her, Eva turns to her sister who lives abroad, and finds comfort in her fantasies during rare moments of solitude. When her mother self-inflicts a severe head injury, Eva glimpses a chance for freedom. Opting to break the chains, she risks regret to pursue a different path," the synopsis reads.

The producers are Vardan Tozija and Unita Film.

Sara Klimoska (b. 1994, Struga) has a degree in Acting from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje. She has had roles in numerous award-winning Macedonian and international film productions. She has written the short film "Frame of Mind" produced by Leitz Cine.

European Short Pitch is aimed at discovering and supporting young European talents in the development of their short films, and fostering coproduction and collaboration between industry professionals from all over Europe. It combines mentoring on short film development with networking and pitching opportunities at its coproduction forum.

Since its creation in 2007, European Short Pitch has accompanied over 300 scriptwriters and directors in the development of their projects. Many of those short films had a successful career and were screened at festivals such as Cannes, Berlinale, Locarno, IFFR, and Sundance. mr/
