Limani -  Özdemir Göktaş: North Macedonia and Turkey are friendly countries, support and exchange of experience are of great importance

Skopje, 8 November 2024 (MIA) - As part of a two-day visit to Turkey, where he is taking part in the 6th International Women and Justice Summit, Minister of Social Policy, Demography and Youth, Fatmir Limani, met with Turkey's Minister of Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş. 

The Ministers discussed certain issues that are under the competence of the two ministries, exchanging positive experiences towards improving current policies and practice, the Ministry of Social Policy, Demography and Youth said in a press release. 

"The two countries have long-standing cooperation in these areas, as confirmed by cooperation agreements signed in the field of labour, social security and employment, as well as the signed Declaration of Intent for cooperation in the field of social policy, which covers issues related to social services for families, women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities," reads the press release. 

Minister Limani said the investment of the Republic of Turkey in the Republic of North Macedonia is of great importance, given that it will generate new jobs and improve the demographic situation in the country. Talks also tackled the Ministry's youth policies towards creating opportunities for young people and keeping them in the country, as well as the inclusion of vulnerable categories of citizens, children, people with disabilities, Roma. Interlocutors highlighted the importance of the family as the basic unit of society, and hence the importance of policies aimed at supporting families.

Participants in the meeting stressed commitment to strengthening cooperation, with a new memorandum of cooperation to be signed between the two ministries.
