Skopje, 4 January 2026 (MIA) - Legislative changes are to be submitted to the Parliament in the first quarter of 2026 aimed at increasing fines for market chains that violate the provisions of the Law on Unfair Trade Practices, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Sunday.
"The Government does not want to enforce repressive measures and that is why I always want to send a message in my statements to those who act immaturely and greedy. There is no business if only one side gains from it, while the citizens are losing. In this case, several market chains are gaining and are trying to circumvent the law. We are closely monitoring these developments. I believe we will soon undertake very harsh actions," PM Mickoski told reporters.
According to him, the Government's frst move is to caution the market chains.
"If they are unable to understand the message and their main interest is profit at the expense of citizens, then the Government will not have other option than to protect the citizens," noted Mickoski.
