Skopje, 28 April 2023 (MIA) - Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP) lawmakers have submitted draft-amendments to the Criminal Code for extension of the statute of limitations for crimes related to abuse of office, especially of elected and appointed officials.
"The amendments stipulate an increase of the statute of limitations of the criminal persecution by one-third compared to the currently prescribed one and the relative statute of limitations of the crime, along with an interim solution in case of a likelihood for the statute of limitations to be exceeded" said MP and LDP leader Monika Zajkova.
According to her, the law would prevent abuse of the statute of limitations at the expense of the rule of law.
Zajkova added that the law would not result in financial implications to the budget, "but criminals would have implications".
