Kyuchyuk expresses to Zaev hope that dialogue with new Bulgarian government will be restored
Sofia, 26 August 2021 (BTA/MIA) - European Parliament Rapporteur for North Macedonia and ALDE Co President Ilhan Kyuchyuk held a series of high-level meetings during his working visit to North Macedonia. The focus of the talks between the two countries was the restoration of trust and good neighbourly relations with the Republic of Bulgaria and the process of European integration of North Macedonia, the office of the Bulgarian MEP announced on Thursday.
"I strongly hope that the dialogue with the new Bulgarian government will resume as soon as possible. Both sides are committed to making joint efforts and finding common ground, because the current losers are the citizens of Bulgaria and North Macedonia. In the meantime, we must not stop promoting good examples, because they will be the basis for building good neighborly relations," Ilhan Kyuchyuk said at a meeting with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev.
Kyuchyuk cited several examples that are proof of successful joint initiatives between the two countries. Among them is the competition "Macedonia and Bulgaria - the Near Far Away", which is held under the patronage of Ilhan Kyuchyuk and next year plans to include both Bulgarian and Macedonian students.
Another example of cooperation between the two countries is the agreement signed this year for the exchange of information between BTA and the Media Information Agency of the Republic of North Macedonia (MIA). And in September a forum is coming up, organized by BTA with the support of MEP Ilhan Kyuchyuk.
The event will take place September 20 - 23 in Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo, and will be attended by Oliver Varheliy - EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev, Prof. Vlado Buckovski - Special Representative of the Republic of North Macedonia for Bulgaria and Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, among others.
