Tetovo, 11 August 2023 (MIA) – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti visited the Municipality of Tetovo on Friday afternoon, upon the invitation of Mayor Bilall Kasami. The two voiced their commitments for a speedier construction of the Tetovo-Prizren road that would pass through the Sharr Mountains. 

Kasami said if the central Government has no interest, as a local government they will attempt to realize the idea for an infrastructure connection between the two cities.

“If the Government is not interested in realizing the Tetovo-Prizren road, based on the study and the agreements with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, then we, as a local government, within our competencies and abilities, will work and invest as we did with this important 7-kilometer section of the road from Selce to Vejce. And we will remain in close contact with the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the local government in Prizren in order to construct this section,” said the Mayor of Tetovo.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that economic development and the development of infrastructure should not only be reserved for the urban areas and cities, but also for rural development as well. According to Kurti, this is being done in both countries.

“We have great interest in a faster connection through the road, which also includes one tunnel, between Prizren and Tetovo. Based on the calculations, we are not talking about a great sum, but the investment in the road will bring benefits both for the citizens and the economy, because it will shorten the time needed to travel,” said PM Kurti.

Kurti reminded that the two countries signed an agreement on the road meant to connect Prizren and Tetovo.

“The agreement was signed by the two prime ministers, i.e., by me and my Macedonian colleague, Kovachevski. I hope that this feasibility study will be placed as soon as possible for the realization of this large regional project that will contribute greatly to the development of both countries,” said Kurti.

Kasami and Kurti did not want to respond to questions about the political issues in the two countries.

Earlier on Friday, as part of his unofficial visit to the country, the Prime Minister of Kosovo attended the commissioning of Adem Demachi Street in the Municipality of Chair in Skopje.
