KSS terminates protests citing pressure on public sector
Skopje, 27 April 2022 (MIA) – The Confederation of Free Trade Unions (KSS) has said it is terminating protests after announcing last week it will organize daily protests in Skopje demanding that salaries be aligned with the 18-denar minimum wage. The decision was made at meetings held by the trade union’s executive board on Tuesday and Wednesday. A low turnout was recorded at Tuesday’s first of the series of protests due to alleged pressure exerted on public sector employees. “According to information from our members and trade union representatives, a fierce political pressure took place in the public sector yesterday. KSS has decided in some of the institutions to press charges against unknown persons in order to protect the identity of our members,” KSS said Wednesday in a press release. Also on Wednesday, the Office for Management of Registers kicked off a nationwide strike demanding signing of collective agreements and pay raise.
