Kovachevski-Geer: SDSM-led gov’t remains committed to finding mutually acceptable solution to Bulgaria dispute
Skopje, 20 December 2021 (MIA) – The SDSM-led government remains committed to finding a mutually acceptable solution to the dispute with Bulgaria, in line with European values. Prime Minister Petkov has given certain signals and I expects we’ll find a solution. Our citizens want and deserve to live in line with EU values and standards, so we’re committed to implementing reforms that bring these values here, SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski said during a meeting with EU Ambassador to North Macedonia David Geer on Monday morning.
Interlocutors discussed at the meeting, SDSM said in a press release, several topics crucial for implementation of reforms and the country’s EU integration process.
Kovachevski thanked the EU for constant support and stressed that as the newly-elected leader of SDSM and future Prime Minister, he has set several priorities including ensuring institutional efficiency, managing the challenges of the energy crisis and the pandemic, realization of economic reforms, unselective fight against corruption leading to higher economic standard and EU integration progress.
The EU, he added, is our partner for the achievement of all these goals.
Kovachevski stressed that the new government will be made up of experienced professionals, who will focus on implementing the green agenda, advancing the economic standard and fighting corruption.
EU Ambassador Geer congratulated Kovachevski on his election, adding that the EU will continue to be a strong ally of the new government.
He underlined that the Union will provide assistance for finding a mutually acceptable solution with Bulgaria, so that North Macedonia can start EU accession negotiations.
