Kovachevski: Threats and blockades take us back to the past; no one is allowed to play with country’s future

Sveti Nikole, 22 April 2024 (MIA) - When I hear threatening tones, it immediately brings to mind what happened twenty years ago in the mountains around us, SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski said Monday evening at the rally of the coalition ‘For a European Future’ in Sveti Nikole.

“I can see that tensions for the elections are already escalating. And there's a reason for it. These elections are crucial for our future. These elections represent a choice FOR or AGAINST our European future! When I hear threatening tones, it immediately brings to mind what happened twenty years ago in the mountains around us. I want to convey to the Albanian community: this is your country too, no one can take away your rights. They are enshrined in the Constitution. But you also have responsibilities. And if you expect that any dissatisfaction will turn into violence, you are mistaken. Firstly, the citizens will not allow it, and no rational person will allow it,” Kovachevski said.

He also sent a message to VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski.

“Every blockade on the European path is not just stagnation, it's also a step backward. Back to 2001 or who knows where. Our national unity is still strong. We cannot allow anyone to play with it," Kovachevski underlined.

A real and substantial change in our society, as he emphasized, is only possible with the EU.

“Only with the EU can we improve conditions in all segments of society. There is no backing down from this," SDSM leader noted.

Kovachevski emphasized that VMRO-DPMNE offers a plan that isn't a plan, and regarding Hristijan Mickoski, he stated that he is the new Nikola Gruevski.

“Like his mentor, he will delay the path to the EU. Like his mentor, he will blame the EU for his failures," emphasized Kovachevski, adding that Gruevski and Mickoski will waste another 11 years of our lives, the lives of our children, and our grandchildren. We are on the threshold of a historic achievement - Macedonia – an EU member state. We've spent a lot of time in the waiting room; now it's time for European Macedonia. Therefore, there is no turning back from the country's European path," SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski said at Sveti Nikole rally.
