Kovachevski: Possible to find solution for schools, health institutions not to be on the free electricity market
Skopje, 15 October 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said he believes it is possible to find a solution to include all schools in the regulated electricity market and health institutions in ESM supply, adding that this won’t largely affect the increase in the price of electricity on the regulated market.
Kovachevski, who visited the General Hospital in Gostivar on Saturday, noted that such measure has not been proposed one-sidedly, but during the wider session of the Economic Council when it has been decided that the Ministry of Economy and the Power Plants of North Macedonia company (ESM) should conduct a detailed analysis on the matter.
He added that as soon as the requirements of the company and of the economy are aligned with the regulations for which the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is in charge, a final solution will be presented as to what the transfer of new institutions to the regulated market will be like.
“It remains for the ERC to consider in detail the request that not only the Government has, but also other institutions, and find a solution in the end. So far, it can be seen that hard work, good coordination between all institutions, leads to solutions,” said Kovachevski.
He stressed that the decision on the price of electricity is set by ERC, adding that it depends on many factors, not just one.
“Transferring primary and secondary schools to the regulated market may also depend on this decision, but it has a much lower share than that of the rise in the prices of other energy sources if you look at the price formation formula,” said Kovachevski.
As regards the news that all institutions have saved over 18 percent of electricity in September 2022 compared to the same month last year, Kovachevski said all ministries had such savings knowing that otherwise there would be a change of ministers.
