Kovachevski: Parliamentary majority is stable, possibly to increase

Skopje, 28 January 2023 (MIA) – In an interview with Alsat M TV’s “360 degrees” show late Friday, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski commented on the stability of the parliamentary majority, noting that it currently includes 64 MPs.

“If you look at all the MPs, regardless of discussions within some of the political parties, no one has questioned the government majority,” Kovachevski said commenting on the current situation with the parliamentary majority.

In response to a question about expansion of the parliamentary majority, Kovachevski said there is always a possibility and need for consolidation of a certain block that has a vision and goal for new political entities to enter.

“It will mean an increase in the efficiency of the Parliament’s work, given that we have a large number of reform laws that are part of the EU accession,” he said. .

As regards DUI’s parliamentary group, PM Kovachevski stressed “that parliamentary group doesn’t have an MP who has a remark on the work of the government, on the realization of European integrations, on the way of dealing with the energy and economic crisis”.

“No MP from the DUI parliamentary group or any other group that is part of the government majority has expressed any statement or position regarding the government majority. I wouldn’t be able to comment as for discussions that take place inside political parties, because our political parties, especially those that are part of the government, are democratic parties,” said Kovachevski.

Commenting on a possible entry of the Alliance for Albanians in the government and a possible exit of Alternativa at the expense of it, he said that Alternativa is part of the government and it is integrated into it both in terms of program and in terms of personnel. Regarding the possible entry of the Alliance for Albanians in the government, the PM said all political parties that act in the direction of North Macedonia joining the EU are welcome in the government.

“In order for that to happen, the political parties must first align in terms of program and, second, they must align in terms of personnel. Up to this point, such talks about personnel and program alignment with potential new partners in the government have not taken place. You specifically ask about the Alliance for Albanians because it is a topic exploited in the public. The Alliance for Albanians is a political party that supported the proposal of the European Union regarding the start of our negotiations. They have always proved that they support our country’s integration in the EU,” Kovachevski said in the interview.
