Kovachevski: Not considering any tax cuts

Skopje, 24 March 2023 (MIA) — North Macedonia has the lowest contributions and taxes in the region so no further reductions are being considered, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Friday in response to a reporter’s question.

“We are talking to the business community every day. I had a meeting with the Economic Chamber president just the other day,” PM Kovachevski said.

“When we talk about contributions, they need to be in correlation with other taxes in the country. We should also look at a comparative analysis with neighboring countries and countries that are comparable to ours. Our country’s tax burden and contributions are the lowest in the region,” he said.

За се она на што може да се ограничи цената, а што нема да влијае на дисбаланс на пазарот ние тоа ќе го направиме, бидејќи потврдивме и покажавме дека може да се направи, а притоа да нема нед

The prime minister also noted that the state was subsidizing a percentage of private companies' contributions to help employers increase employees' paychecks.

He recalled that the government’s measures led to “a historical increase in the minimum wage, which used to be 8,000 denars, and now it is 20,175 denars.”

In addition, Kovachevski said, the average montthly salary rose from 20,000 denars to more than 34,000 denars.

“At the same time, we have reduced unemployment and increased employment. There can be no better indicators than these to illustrate the fact that we have a sound economic policy,” he said. mr/
