Kovachevski: No open issues between Skopje and Belgrade, friendship strengthened over past four years

Skopje, 31 March 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski has highlighted the importance of goodneighborly relations between North Macedonia and Serbia, saying both countries have no alternative to EU integration while adding that governments have done a lot more over the past four years than what had been done in the past three decades.

"Most of the achievements have taken place in the last two years since the establishment of the Open Balkan initiative. Let's not forget how the Balkans looked like 30 years ago, an area of conflicts and restrictions in people's movement. Today we have countries such as North Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro that are NATO members, while these three and Serbia are negotiating the EU accession," PM Kovachevski told Serbian TV station Pink.

Kovachevski said North Macedonia and Serbia currently enjoy the best relations on record, with no open bilateral issues, the last being last year's recognition of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archdiocese by the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Government said in a press release.
