Kovachevski: No discussion on Macedonian identity

Kovachevski: No discussion on Macedonian identity
Skopje, 16 February 2022 (MIA) – Dialogue on political issues with Bulgaria takes place in the spirit of the European values, whereas the Macedonian identity is not discussed, says Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski while adding that the Macedonian people speak the Macedonian language, as inscribed in the country’s Constitution. “On other issues that are being discussed, we will share every acceptable solution with the public and the institutions that are tasked with approving such solutions,” PM Kovachevski told Sitel TV. On the Goce Delchev declaration proposed by the opposition, he says it is damaging for the process and adds that Delchev’s work should not be subject of any declaration. “Goce Delchev is the founder of the Macedonian national struggle. His ideals from the 1900s have been realized through the establishment of an independent Macedonian state in which we live today, a NATO member and a step away from the start of the EU accession negotiations. He is part of our anthem, his remains are in Skopje,” says Kovachevski. The PM notes the declaration represents daily politics by the opposition and a way for it “to hinder talks”, adding that the document was not supported by any party in the Parliament. Kovachevski says working groups from North Macedonia and Bulgaria, supported by institutions, have been building an atmosphere of mutual trust between the countries and its citizens.
