Skopje, 25 May 2022 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski held Wednesday a meeting with the Head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church (MOC) – Ohrid Archbishopric, Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia, HH Stefan to hand him over a letter of congratulations on behalf of the government and on his personal behalf on the decision on MOC being granted a status of autocephaly. In the letter, the move to accept the MOC – Ohrid Archbishopric as autocephalous church is being hailed as historic. “Be proud and rejoice because your generation had the honor and the endeavor of MOC – Ohrid Archbishopric, an heir of the ancient Ohrid Archbishopric, to be inscribed as autocephalous and equal with all other Orthodox churches,” reads the letter addressed to the members of the Synod the clergy and all Orthodox faithful. We, it adds, are looking forward to the joint liturgy with representatives of other Orthodox churches at the Ecumenical Patriarchate, at which MOC-Ohrid Archbishopric will be welcomed as equal. “Today, Macedonians and Macedonian language are included in the treasury of all the world’s nations and languages and it is no longer disputed,” says the letter presented to PM Kovachevski to Macedonian Archbishop Stefan.
