Kovachevski: Macedonian language is part of European languages

Kovachevski: Macedonian language is part of European languages

Skopje, 20 June 2023 (MIA) - The Macedonian language is already a part of the European languages. It is used in Brussels' interpreter booths, the EU acquis is being translated into Macedonian and the bilateral screening is also in Macedonian, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski in response to a reporter's question at Tuesday's event on the 70th anniversary since the establishment of the Krste Misirkov Macedonian Language Institute and 120 years since the publishing of the book "On Macedonian Matters".

Kovachevski also reiterated that the Macedonian language is in the Negotiating Framework.

"The Macedonian language is clearly used in the Frontex Agreement and that was one of the conditions for negotiations, it stands together with all other EU languages, without any additional footnotes and explanations, and also this agreement has been approved by all EU member countries, including Bulgaria and Greece. This means that when you go to Brussels, the Macedonian language is clearly used in the interpreters' booths, the entire EU acquis is being translated into Macedonian and the bilateral screening is also in Macedonian because our teams, for the most part, use the language. This is an affirmation and confirmation that the Macedonian language is part of the EU. That is also backed by EU member states through their resolutions, such as the German Bundestag which confirmed its support and recognition of the Macedonian language, culture, and identity, and gave their support for North Macedonia's EU accession where the Macedonian language, culture, and identity will become part of the mosaic of European identities, and hence, there is no greater confirmation and proof that the Macedonian language, with the decisions we made last year, is part of the European languages, i.e. the languages of the EU," said Kovachevski. ssh/nn/
