Kovachevski: Leaving as less as possible room for provocations aiming to disrupt goodneighborly relations

Skopje, 7 February 2023 (MIA) - We succeeded in organizing a dignified and peaceful observance of Goce Delchev's birth anniversary. We should leave as less as possible room for provocations, which aim solely to disrupt goodneighborly relations, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Tuesday.

Asked by reporters about the indecent and insulting comments made by Bulgarian Member of European Parliament (MEP) Aleksandar Yordanov, PM Kovachevski said the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have condemned the conduct that is not befitting for a MEP, also sending notes to the Bulgarian authorities and the European Parliament.

"In line with the decisions by the Security Council, the Government, the Ministry of Interior and other security services and in coordination with partner services, because let's not forget we are a NATO member, we succeeded in organizing a dignified and peaceful observance of Goce Delchev's birth anniversary. Let me thank all citizens who calmly paid their respect and I believe we should leave as less room as possible to the ones such as the gentleman you mentioned but also others whose sole interest is to provoke and disrupt goodneighborly relations, as well as prevent the region from joining the EU. On the other hand, the official governments of regional states want to see the area in the EU and this is what we are working on," said Kovachevski.

Regarding the rights of citizens in North Macedonia, the PM said they are raised at the highest level when compared with many countries in Europe and the world.

"When it comes to rights in our country, they are not just a piece of paper but are implemented across institutions, namely through the Ministry for Political System, agency for enhancement of rights of smaller communities, agency for the use of languages, which are non-existent in other countries. This is good, we are a multiethnic, multicultural country that draws its strength from diversities, and we will continue in the same way," said Kovachevski.
