Kovachevski is in the country, there's a mix-up that he's implicated in Grubi case: SDSM spokeswoman

Skopje, 19 December 2024 (MIA) – Former prime minister Dimitar Kovachevski is in the country, in fact he gave a statement yesterday from his office in Parliament, SDSM spokeswoman Bogdanka Kuzeska told MIA on Thursday.

She said there has been a public mix-up that the criminal charge against the ex-premier is in connection to the case against former deputy prime minister Artan Grubi, who has fled to Kosovo.

According to the information I have at disposal, Kuzeska said, a case hasn’t been opened yet, only criminal charge was filed that should be processed and investigated further.

“I’d like to express disappointment with the mix-up. Namely, the public prosecution office is yet to open a case against ex-PM Dimitar Kovachevski, named by some media outlets. From what we know so far from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, no proceedings have been launched, only criminal charge was filed that is yet to be processed and investigated. It involved a totally different period that isn’t related to the case involving the ex-deputy prime minister,” said Kuzeska.

In relation to the abuse of power charges filed by the Interior Ministry against eight people, Kovachevski stated that he had followed the laws throughout his term both as prime minister and deputy finance minister saying he hoped proceedings will be conducted in an unbiased and professional way.

The Interior Ministry in the charge says the former government at a session two years ago had approved the establishment of the company “New State Video Lottery” with the ex-prime minister allowing its managers to earn illegally 140,000 euros.
