Kovachevski in Tetovo: EU membership will bring true, substantial change for the better

Tetovo, 20 April 2024 (MIA) — SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski presented the Coalition for European Macedonia's election platform at a rally which also marked the party's 33rd anniversary, MIA's Tetovo correspondent reports.

According to Kovachevski, the platform includes reforms in the energy sector, the fight against corruption, the judiciary, and the administration, with the aim of joining the EU in 2030.

"Our EU membership will bring true, substantial change for the better in our country. I believe that in European Macedonia the standard of living will be much higher and that we will succeed in building a system based on the rule of law and an effective fight against crime and corruption.

"The EU has not always been fair to us. But that doesn't mean we should give up. We should not give up on a brighter and better future for our children and grandchildren," Kovachevski said.

Slavjanka Petrovska, head of the SDSM and Coalition for European Future list of MP candidates from the Sixth Electoral District, announced better working conditions and raises for firefighters.

"During our next term, we will found an agency that will have the legal obligation to procure equipment for all fire departments, and their basic salary will be regulated by law and will be equal to two average salaries for each firefighter. We have to protect those who protect us," Petrovska said.

MP candidates Agron Demiri and Andrijana Tomovska also addressed the rally, drawing attention to SDSM's planned support for young people's education and careers. mr/
