Skopje, 9 February 2023 (MIA) – The final outcome of the negotiations over the Alliance for Albanians (AA) joining the government could be known on Thursday evening after the conclusion of the meetings within SDSM and AA. I cannot comment on Alternativa’s decision, the door remains open because they are a part of the government, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Thursday.
Asked about the progress of negotiations over AA’s entry into government and whether Alternativa will remain in the coalition, Kovachevski said that SDSM’s Central and Executive Board will hold a session Thursday, during which the working group will submit a report on the negotiations.
“Over the past period, they had intensive meetings with their colleagues from AA. They also had meetings with other political parties as well. I also met with all leaders of the coalition parties, and with the leader of Alternativa. The goal is to increase the majority in favor of North Macedonia’s EU integration,” said Kovachevski.
Regarding Alternativa, Kovachevski said they want to see Alternativa remain a part of the majority, noting that since the potential entry of a new partner in the ruling coalition means that the majority might increase, the existing majority will have to make certain adjustments.
“The door remains open for Alternativa, because they are a part of the government. We are a democratic society and no politician or political party can affect the decision of another politician or political party. However, my respect for the political parties that are a part of the ruling coalition, who participated in the making of difficult decisions for both NATO and EU, and any other legal solutions aimed at improving our society, always has been, is, and will be at the highest level,” said Kovachevski. ad/nn/
