Kovachevski doesn’t expect new political crisis, says election date to be agreed within legal deadlines

Ohrid, 2 November 2023 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said Thursday he doesn’t expect the country to go through a new political crisis, "even though," he said, "the opposition has been blocking the work of Parliament over the past four years."

In answer to media questions, the Prime Minister said the coming elections would be organized on the basis of an Electoral Code that all political parties agree on.

“Once the Electoral Code is drafted by the Ministry of Justice, it will be delivered to Parliament, where all political parties, including those from the opposition who aren’t participating, will be able to provide their contribution to its final realization by participating in the parliamentary discussion,” said Kovachevski.

“The [date for the] elections,” he stressed, “will be agreed within the legal deadlines for both the presidential and parliamentary elections, while also respecting the rights of the citizens of North Macedonia, regardless of their religion, to celebrate the Ramadan and Easter holidays with their families.”
