Kovachevski attends PES leaders meeting in Brussels

Skopje, 14 December 2023 (MIA) - As part of his working visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski attended on Thursday a meeting of members of the Party of European Socialists (PES). Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Portugal's Prime Minister António Costa, Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as EU top officials including European Commission Vice-Presidents Maroš Šefčovič and Josep Borrell, and Commissioners Paolo Gentiloni, Nicolas Schmit and Elisa Ferreira also attended the working meeting.

Leaders gather for a regular meeting to discuss current issues on the EU agenda, towards coordinating positions ahead of the European Council meeting, the Government said in a press release.

At the meeting, Kovachevski expressed gratitude for the European Socialists' continued support to North Macedonia, noting that they are strong supporters of the EU enlargement process with the Western Balkan countries.

PM Kovachevski sent a message that the EU should not abandon its successful foreign policy instrument aimed at peace and promoting reforms, adding that North Macedonia's EU integration will also guarantee the stability of the Western Balkans.

"When the EU supports us, we win. When we win, Europe wins," Kovachevski pointed out.

PES leaders discussed the Union's geostrategic challenges, voicing their strong support to EU enlargement with the Western Balkans.
