Kovachevski and Plenković meet H. H. Stefan: Construction of Macedonian church in Zagreb fulfills decades-long wish of Macedonians in Croatia

Skopje, 5 April 2023 (MIA) – The Prime Ministers of North Macedonia and Croatia, Dimitar Kovachevski and Andrej Plenković, met Wednesday with the Head of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC – OA), H. H. Stefan.

During the meeting, Archbishop Stefan and PM Kovachevski thanked Plenković for the Croatian Government’s support in constructing the Macedonian orthodox church St. Zlata Meglenska in Zagreb, the Government said in a press release.

“The construction of this religious temple fulfilled the decades-long wishes of the Macedonian minority in Croatia to have their own orthodox place for prayer,” the press release reads.

H. H. Stefan and PM Kovachevski expressed appreciation for what the authorities of Zagreb did, which was to donate land for the church, as well as the donations by Zagreb, Split and the Macedonian citizens in Croatia to aid the construction of this orthodox temple.

Kovachevski pointed out that the construction of the orthodox temple for the needs of the Macedonian minority shows that the Croatian people nurture the multicultural spirit and honor the rights of various minorities who live in Croatia. In addition, there are no open issues between the Catholic Church and the MOC-OA, which is canonically unified with all other orthodox churches. H. H. Stefan and Kovachevski wished PM Plenković a Happy Easter for the upcoming holiday, celebrated this week by Catholic believers. dk/nn/
