Kovachevski: Aligning political parties' position on constitutional changes ahead of us

Gevgelija, 11 September 2023 (MIA) - Aligning the position of the political parties is ahead of us, because we have an extremely important decision ahead of us - continuing the country's European integration, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said in response to a reporter's question on whether an agreement is possible with the opposition VMRO-DPMNE on the constitutional amendments.

Kovachevski noted that the vote in the Macedonian Parliament means a vote for securing the country's European future and continuing the Euro-integration process.

"If we used to have veto from outside, today for the first time we can see a veto from inside the country. But, let's allow space for the process, so that everyone can express their views and modify them according to their own interests and the interests of the citizens who, with an overwhelming majority of over 80 percent, want to live in an EU member state," said Kovachevski.

Asked whether a deal has been made with VMRO-DPMNE over voting for the constitutional amendments, Kovachevski briefly said that he leaves room for an agreement and for everyone to moderate their views.

"Let's see when there will be a sufficient number of votes, when 120 will vote short of two from the Levica party who will certainly not vote. They are against the country's membership in the European Union, and until then I leave room for agreements and for everyone to moderate their views," said PM Kovachevski, who attended an event on granting social housing tenancies in Gevgelija on Monday.
