Kovachevski – Pavlova: Key infrastructural, energy and environment projects secure stability and accelerate EU integration

Skopje, 23 March 2023 (MIA) – Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski held a meeting with a delegation of the European Investment Bank (EIB) on Wednesday, led by Vice-President of the Bank, Lilyana Pavlova.

 

Minister of Finance Fatmir Besimi and Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi also attended the meeting.

 

“We concluded that our previous cooperation with the European Investment Bank has been successful and we are hoping to deepen this cooperation in other areas. The interlocutors discussed the support given by the European Investment Bank towards the realization of key projects in the public sector, from the area of road and railroad infrastructure, energy, as well as green development and the country’s green transition,” the Government said in a press release.

 

They jointly expressed the importance of implementing the project for the construction of the gas interconnector with Greece and the section in the country. This investment will stabilize the energy supply, which will lead to the growth of the country and a sooner integration of the energy market in the region, as well as the EU.

 

The importance of the project to construct a wastewater treatment plant in Skopje was also pointed out, backed by an investment grant within the WBIF, which will improve the quality of life for the citizens of the capital city.

 

PM Kovachevski thanked the EIB for its continuous support. The EIB has been active in North Macedonia since 1991, securing over EUR 1.1 million in financial support for the companies, as well as projects in the area of transport, energy and infrastructure. dk/nn/
