Kovachevski – McCarthy: North Macedonia needs to keep moving forward

Skopje, 7 July 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski met on Friday with the International Republican Institute (IRI)'s Europe Regional Director, Paul McCarthy, said that it is of essential importance for North Macedonia to continue moving forward towards full EU membership after joining NATO.
This will ensure quality of life for the citizens in the country, in direction of improving the standard of living, the quality of services, and the rule of law.
They also discussed current issues of importance for our country, the region and Europe, the government said in a press release.
At the meeting, they expressed expectations that the democratically determined political entities, in the next few months, will be actively involved in the decisions that will ensure the European perspectives of the citizens and North Macedonia.
“The government and I, as prime minister, are actively committed to the European perspectives. Today, the country is a member of NATO. We have opened EU accession negotiations, protecting the Macedonian language and identity. We have been solving the current challenges of the situation in Ukraine, through a strong partnership with the United States and European friends. And what is needed is common sense from all political entities, that the chance to take a new step forward is now,” Kovachevski noted.
Kovachevski thanked for the long-standing principled and constructive cooperation with the International Republican Institute, which leads to the advancement of democratic processes in the country, reads the press release.
